About Me

Nick Baker

I live in Tauranga, New Zealand since 1998 and have been working in the internet field since the world-wide web appeared in the mid-1990s. I had my first email address in 1994 and signed up for Hotmail in 1996 (and still have the same email address).

I was using search engines before Google Search existed when I was choosing between search engines such as Lycos, Altavista and Dogpile. Other than giving a clue to my age, I have 25+ years of internet experience which means I have seen many situations occur and many platforms and channels come (and often go).

A decade spent working at Cucumber meant I grew my knowledge in all areas of the digital world meaning I can advise on almost all digital issues for your company.

Some more history

I first came across web analytics in 2002 when my company sold NetTracker from Sane Solutions - this was a software tool that imported the physical log files from your web server.

20 years later web analytics is largely about Google Analytics as since it arrived in 2007 and offered a free service, the smaller paid tools like NetTracker have withered and died.

More Information

  • Yes - but my preference is an overall review of your digital setup to assess and report back on your best options for improvement.

  • Because it underpins all of your digital efforts. Set up the most analytics reporting you can so that the data is available when you need it.

Also it is vital to maintain your analytics so that it matches the changes you make to your website and the campaigns you are running.

  • It all depends on your status. For a new site or in very competitive markets, Ads are often the only way to gain traffic to your website. But you should be working on your SEO at the same time for a future reduction in Ad spending.
